Maori Weekend

Maori Weekend 2023

June 24 and 25

The Maori Weekend at Museum Volkenkunde is a unique and special opportunity to learn more about Maori culture and Matariki (Maori New Year), the moment when star cluster Pleiades appears in the sky and marks the beginning of the Maori calendar. Learn about Maori customs and art forms and participate in fun activities that allow you to experience the culture firsthand!

Museum of Ethnology has a rich collection of objects made by Maori, the original inhabitants of New Zealand, as well as a special and close relationship with various Maori groups. In 2010, Museum of Ethnology was even given a ceremonial boat, waka taua, and a boat for daily use, waka tete kura. This special connection allows the Museum of Ethnology to bring Maori culture closer to home, to inspire global citizenship and an open view of the world.

Outdoor activities are free. Indoor activities regular ticket fee.
