Every sunday ( attention: not in the months July and August) you are welcome to listen to beautiful music.
Among others Gamelan music from the group Sekar Alit, under guidance of Henry Nagelberg. You are welcome to have a look at our weekly public repetitions! Characteristic for gamelan music is the high tempo, the abrupt shifts and an unprecedented dynamic.
Since 1996, Museum Volkenkunde has a Balinese Gamelan Gong Kebyar in its possession. Gamelan Gong Kebyar is a whole orchestra with different percussion instruments: genders ( a type of xylophone), gongs and drums. Because the genders vary, there is a certain beat that keeps the tone 'alive'. All of the instruments are richly decorated with wood carvings of people, demons and animals from hindu stories. Do you want to play along? That's possible! Beginners and more advanced people can contact Stichting Yayasan Sekar Alit.
