Azu Nwagbogu 

Guest curator Azu Nwagbogu created the exhibition by pairing masterpieces from the Wereldmuseum's collection with work by contemporary artists, looking for connections to current societal issues.

Azu Nwagbogu is an internationally acclaimed curator. In 2007, he founded the African Artists' Foundation (AAF), a non-profit organisation based in Nigeria that promotes African art and artists. He ran the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art in Cape Town, is founder and director of the Lagos Photo Festival and initiated Art Base Africa, a virtual space for discovering contemporary African art. He is also co-curator of Buro Stedelijk, a site for emerging artists and designers affiliated with the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, as well as curator of the Benin pavilion for the Venice Biennale 2024.
